Work-life balance is finding the perfect equilibrium between having fun, living your life, and staying focused on getting your work done. Many people have trouble finding the perfect work-life balance, especially with the transition to “work from home” jobs. The goal of having an equal work-life balance is to increase your physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Here are 5 ways you can improve your work life balance:

  1. Find a job that you love: Having a job that you love will instantly make your life so much better, if you are dreading going to work everyday then you are not going to be in a stable mental state. Life is meant to be enjoyed, not dreaded.

  1. Prioritize your health: If you are not taking care of yourself, eating properly, sleeping properly, staying active, etc. then you will never be able to find a healthy work-life balance. Your health should be your number one priority.

  1. Make time for yourself: Although you may want to spend all of your free time with your friends and family, make time for yourself. If you are constantly working and spending time with others you won’t find time to decompress and focus on your health.

  1. Set specific work hours: Setting specific work hours is very important, especially if you are working from home or doing freelance work. Although it may be tempting to pick up your computer late at night and crank out a few hours of work, don’t. This just sets you up for a life to be lived just for work. Instead, try going for a walk, watching a movie, or even something artistic.

  1. Make a list of your goals: Making a list of goals for yourself will set you up for success, you can have both work and life goals. Maybe you want a promotion, maybe you want to spend more time with your friends. Setting goals will help provide structure because you can set them and create a plan of action on how to achieve them. Additionally, it will allow you to sit back and evaluate where you’re spending your time and how that is serving you.

Finding a work-life balance is a challenge, but it is always attainable. Whether you work too much or play too much, it is good to evaluate yourself and surroundings. Being able to manage your time in a way that allows you to live in a state of equilibrium will boost your physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
